This is R/C Car Magazine’s first annual Editors’ 10 Best Awards and we could not be happier to be among the 10 lucky recipients of this prestigious award. Below is what R/C Car wrote about AKA and why they choose AKA tires and inserts as one of their 10 Best for 2009. These awards will be presented in the December 2009 issue due to hit the shelves soon.
In our December 2008 issue, we described AKA’s tires and revolutionary inserts by saying, “They’re changing the game, one insert at a time.” Never before has a single brand totally changed the landscape of RC off-road buggy and truggy tires almost instantly. And why should we be surprised? AKA’s leaders are none other than Gil Losi Jr., Mark Pavidis and Joel Johnson. Losi Jr. and Pavidis’s tire and insert designs sent a nuclear blast through the tire industry, as AKA’s closed-cell, ground-down, balanced and ultra-durable reusable foam insert has now been copied by every major tire manufacturer since its release. As if the foam insert alone weren’t enough of a game changer, AKA’s next-level “zip lock” packaging, unique wheel design and tread shapes have also been imitated in such blatant ways that it only reinforces how quickly consumers have accepted AKA’s tires as the standard by which all others are now judged. And all of this from a two-year-old startup company.
