It has only been a month since the Chinese R/C community lost one of it's early pioneers of off-road racing. On Feb 12th, 2012 60 racers gathered at the KRC track for the first annual Eugene Cheng Memorial Race.
Being that Eugene was a very close personal friend, this race had very special meaning to me. All of us in the Chinese R/C community thought there would be no better way to pay tribute to our lost friend than through a memorial race. To further honor Eugene his two favorite classes were the only classes to run. 1:8 Buggy and 1:10 4WD EP Buggy.
The race began with a moment of silence and then qualifying was started. I was very happy so many racers turn out on such short notice for the event and it made me even more motivated to win this race for Eugene in the 1:8 Buggy class.
While my qualifiers were all disrupted by traffic I was still able to qualify second and I knew I had the pace to race for the win in the main event. The A main started very cleanly and allowed all the racers for settle in for a nice long battle on the track. I battled with the top qualifier for the entire race, but after the 45 minutes had expired I was able to take the win by 6 seconds! My DNX-408 on AKA IMPACT Super Soft tires (14007SR) was flawless all race!
I would like to dedicate this win to my great friend Eugene. You will be dearly missed!
